John Webster Carter, loving Patriarch of our family, passed away on November 2, 2011.

He was born in Ogden on November 16, 1919, the son of Thomas W. and Ethel West Carter.

He grew up in Ogden, graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State College. During World War II, he served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater.

On January 22, 1941, John married Maxine Webb in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they cared for their homes, gardens, family and one another for over 68 years.

John worked as a civil engineer at Hill Air Force Base with responsibilities for maintenance and repair of buildings, roads and rails at Hill AFB and Wendover facilities. He retired after 32 years of service.

John was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in many callings including counselor in bishoprics, Elders and High Priest presidencies and Stake Clerk.

Quiet and reserved, John was always more interested in learning about others than talking about himself. He worked hard and played hard and provided a living example of the importance of doing the right things the right way, and not worrying about receiving credit or thanks. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Other interests included golfing with friends and family, photography, gardening and beekeeping. He loved to work with his hands and was an accomplished cabinet maker and finish carpenter.

John was a loving and devoted husband. His love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was steadfast and unconditional.

He is survived by a daughter Susan (Doyle) Logan of Desert Hot Springs, CA; and a son Steven (Lynne) Carter of Ogden. John and Maxine have seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife Maxine; Lyne Grace, an infant daughter; Scott Nelson, a grandson; and Jacob Morris a great-grandson.

Our family would like to thank to Dr. Glen Biddulph for his excellent medical care and the compassionate loving care of Kelly and Lindsey of Advocate Hospice. Friends and family are invited to gather from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.on Monday November 7, 2011 at the Pleasant Valley 7th Ward, 5735 S. Crestwood Drive, South Ogden.

Graveside service and interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
