Rev. James Edward Dye, age 90 of the Garden Creek section of Oakwood, Virginia, passed away Saturday (November 5, 2011) at his home. Born June 16, 1921 in Drill, Virginia, he was a son of the late Filmore and Susie Wilson Dye. He had spent his early life in Drill, moving to Buchanan County in 1940. A United States Army veteran, he had served in Europe during World War II. A retired coal miner, he was a member of UMWA Local 2372 in Jewell Valley. He was a member of Guiding Light Free Will Baptist Church and had been a minister for over 60 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie Miller Dye, two sons, Millard Dye and Quinton Dye, one daughter, Rose Marie Dye, four sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Wade Dye and companion, Pamela Watkins of Mavisdale, Bruce Dye and wife, Rose and Harold Dye and wife, Rita all of Oakwood; one sister, Arbutus Richardson of Ohio; seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Troy Harris and Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Cemetery at Drill, Virginia.
Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia.
