Mrs. McNeill was a World War II bride. She worked for the department of the Navy as a switch board operator for many years. Her main focus in life was the care of her children and became a full time homemaker. She liked to bake, make preserves and jellies and can fresh vegetables. She helped the helpless raising funds for the animal shelter by baking and selling cupcakes door to door to raise money for animals. She loved to take Sunday afternoon rides, with her husband and children. She was a Baptist and a member of Indian River Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice M. Fitzpatrick and her husband, William, of Chesapeake; her sons, M. Porter McNeill and his wife, Sheila, of Chesapeake and R. David McNeill of Dumfries, VA; brother, Derwood Oliver of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Jennifer, David Jr., Benny, Patrick, Matthew, Meredith, Allison, and Ashley; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. by Pastor Bert Kirk. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Cedar Road Chapel, one hour prior to the graveside service. Masks and social distancing will be required.
