Elizabeth was born about 28 Feb 1755, daughter of William Meriwether and Martha Cox Wood. She married her first cousin Nicholas Meriwether on 1 Jun 1771 in Louisa County, Virginia; they were the parents of eight children, though names for only six are known: Frances, Morton (d. 1784), Nicholas (d. 1784), Richard, Henry (d. 1784) and William (d. 1784). All the children were born in Virginia and Elizabeth and four of her sons died in 1784 soon after Nicholas moved the family to Louisville, KY.
