Mr. Pawling was born in Hagaman March 15, 1881, a son of Henry H. and Elizabeth Thatcher Pawling. He was employed at one time in the L. E. Harrower Knitting Mills and later worked at the Watervliet Arsenal and for the New York State Conservation Department but had been retired for several years.
Mr. Pawling was a member of Calvary- Reformed Church of Hagaman. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War I and was a member of John J. Wyszomirski Post, 701, American Legion.
March 27, 1918, he married Josephine Southard, Johnstown, who survives him, together with two sons. William H. Pawling, New York City, and Henry H. Pawling, Amsterdam; one sister, Mrs. Lillian MacCowatt, Westfield, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
