Phyllis Ada (Selby) Pease, longtime resident of Barnsdall, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the age of 82 years. She was born March 24, 1929, in Barnsdall to Oscar and Myrtle (Smith) Selby. Phyllis was raised and received her education in Barnsdall and was a graduate of the high school class of 1947. She worked for White's Drug Store during her High School years. Upon C. J. Pease's return from the Naval service, he and Phyllis were united in marriage on March 3, 1947. To this union, two daughters were born. Although primarily a homemaker and mother, in later years Phyllis worked for Hills Grocery until it was purchased by Well's Grocery and remained with them for fifteen years. A member of the First Christian Church since 1949, Phyllis had served as Sunday school secretary, taught Sunday school, youth group activities and led the singing. Due to failing health the past four years, she was a resident at the Barnsdall Nursing Home, where she served as President of the Resident's Council, led Bible Study, and the singing at the church services. Phyllis was a Christian, a Prayer Warrior, and loved OU Football. Everything came to a halt when her beloved Sooner's played. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, confidante and "Adopted Grandmother" to the staff at the Barnsdall Nursing Home.
Those that survive and hold many cherished memories are her:
Daughters – Rhonda (Pease) McCauley and husband David, Ralinda (Pease) Smith all of Barnsdall; 3 grandchildren – Brooke (McCauley) Smith and husband Eliot of Barnsdall, Dax McCauley and wife Jaime of Norman, OK and Holly (Smith) Malone and husband Gary (Gib) of Barnsdall; four great grandchildren and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of one more in June. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews that adored her and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband C.J. in 2005; 3 sisters Roxal King, Finis Chambers and Marcelete Moore and 3 brothers Cecil, J.B. and Darrell (Bo) Selby.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church, Barnsdall with Mr. Leon Martin officiating.
