Mary was the daughter of Milton Richards and Jane Jackson. She married Lorenzo Story on 24 Feb 1859. Lorenzo was a native of New York, and moved to Sidney from Wabash County, Indiana, in 1857. Lorenzo's first wife, Martha, died in 1858, soon after they arrived. Lorenzo and Martha had one daughter, Jennie.

Mary and Lorenzo had the following known children: John M, Lorenzo A, Alta Jane (Kerschner), Martha Ella, Frances "Fannie", Ralph Edward, and Ross Garfield.

Lorenzo died in 1885 at the age of 52 years. Mary died in 1920 at the age of 77 years.
