Funeral Held Monday
Pauline C. NIELSON, 61, widow of the late A. C. NIELSON Jr., died at the family home here at 5:40 Friday afternoon of cerebral hemorrhage. She had been an invalid since suffering a stroke in February, 1933, but had partially regained her health when she was stricken again last July while visiting in Brigham City. She had been partially blind for a long time and lost sight and speech before death came.
Mrs. NIELSON was born in Ephraim, September 07, 1874, a daughter of C. C. A. and Else Schele CHRISTENSEN. She attended the public schools here and also graduated from the Snow academy. She was always active in the L. D. S. Church and served as an officer in the Primary association and as president of the Y. L. M. I. A. for many years.
She was married to A. C. NIELSON Jr., November 13, 1901, and he died several years ago. She is survived by seven sons and daughters: George A. NIELSON, Brigham City; Mrs. Earl MARTIN, Los Angeles, California; Mary NIELSON, principal of the Ephraim elementary school; Robert NIELSON, a forest ranger with headquarters at Blanding; Sheldon, Woodrow and Evan NIELSON, all of Ephraim; by two brothers and a sister, H. M. CHRISTENSEN, Mrs. Mary A. WELLING and John CHRISTENSEN, all of Salt Lake City; also by eleven grandchildren.
Bishop T. L. Thomson was in charge of the well attended Funeral Service held in the South ward chapel Monday afternoon for Mrs. NIELSON. The choir was directed by Elda Mortenson with Mrs. Jennie Johnson as accompanist. Prayers were by Joseph E. Anderson and A. C. Olsen and special musical numbers were a vocal duet, "I Am Longing for You Darling" by Venice Paulson and Lavern Johnson, accompanied by Anna Jensen; a vocal duet, "Whispering Hope," by Melba K. Armstrong and Maurice Nielson, accompanied by Bly M. Beal; and a violin solo, "The Rosary" by Pearl Willardson, accompanied by by Geneva Peterson.
Joseph H. Thompson, as the first speaker, told what splendid neighbors Mrs. NIELSON and her family had been and told of her long suffering since being stricken some 2 ½ years ago. He related some history of Mrs. NIELSON's parents, how they had embraced the gospel in their native land and had been splendid pioneers in building up the country. He also told how Mrs. NIELSON had raised two children left by her husband's first wife and said she was a beloved mother and would have many to greet her on the other side.
P. D. Jensen spoke with great emotion of how he had been called to the NIELSON home a night or two before Mrs. NIELSON's death to administer to her and of the kindly spirit which permeated the place. He read a poem and referred to scripture which fitted the life of Mrs. NIELSON and spoke of the splendid family she had raised. He urged them to carry on as their mother would have them do.
Bishop Thomson told how Mrs. NIELSON had asked to be prayed for to be release from this life. He spoke of her struggle to keep her family together and enable them to continue the educational pursuits after the death of her husband. He spoke highly of Miss Mary NIELSON for carrying on so well and told how her mother had looked up to depended on her to manage the affairs of the home. He said Mrs. NIELSON had been his last primary teacher, he ceased to attend Primary.
The closing song by the choir was "I Know that My Redeemer Lives," with Mrs. W. L. Howell singing the solo. The grave in the Park Cemetery was dedicated by Hyrum M. CHRISTENSEN, a brother of Mrs. NIELSON.
Coming from out of town for the Funeral Service were Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum M. CHRISTENSEN, Mrs. Mary A. WELLING, Mrs. C. J. CHRISTENSEN, Mrs. Clara J. CHRISTENSEN and A. C. OLSEN of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Rudolph NIELSEN of Milford; Mrs. Ruby STEVENS and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth HALES, Redmond, and Mr. C. W. NIELSON, Salina; also many friends and relatives from other towns in Sevier and Sanpete County.
