He was born on June 20, 1921, in Belle Plaine, the son of Leonard and Grace Beal. He married Mayme Kent on November 1, 1950.
He served for three years during World War II as a dock loader. After the war, he returned to Iowa and became a truck driver. He also worked with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a car man. He and his wife also owned and operated Beal's Cafe for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Sandra (Jim) Blaess of Camanche; sons, Lenny (Jane) Beal of Camanche, Randy (Tina) Beal of Belle Plaine, Ronald (Teresa) Beal of Grinnell, and Larry (Lori) Beal of Alleman; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carol (Don) Hlass of Belle Plaine, Hazel Jones of Oquawka, Illinois, and Eunice Houska of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews.
