BELPRE - Ora E. Garrett Jr., 86, of Belpre died June 9, 2003, at the Marietta Center.

He was born April 17, 1917, in West Milford, Harrison County, W.Va., a son of the late Ora E. Garrett Sr. and Lillie Jane Brown Garrett. After moving to Belpre at the age of 13, he spent most of his adult life in Belpre working as a building contractor and a real estate broker. During his tenure on the Belpre Board of Education from 1953-1961, the present high school and gymnasium were built. He was a member of the Mullen Memorial Baptist Church for more than 50 years, the Belpre-Masonic Lodge 609 and the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Cambridge in 1955.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Elizabeth; a son, Joe Garrett and his wife, Vicky; two daughters, Gail Snyder and her husband, Marvin, and Jane Stukey and her husband, Dan, all of Belpre; seven grandchildren, Jerry Snyder of Vincent, Mike Snyder of Belpre, Dr. Todd Stukey of Dublin, Ohio, Troy Stukey and his wife, Molly, of Dublin, Ohio, Kelly Garrett Clinton and her husband, Jeff, of Lewis Center, Ohio, Krista Garrett of Dublin, Ohio, and Kent Garrett and his wife, Ann, of Union, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Amber Snyder of Belpre, Olivia and Caroline Stukey of Dublin, Ohio, and Emily Clinton of Lewis Center, Ohio; two sisters, Orma Spies and Mabel Broadwater, both of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Garrett, and two sisters, Velva Adams and Wilma Riffle.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Mullen Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. D. Larry Hooper officiating. Burial will follow at the Rockland Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Masonic Services at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
