Mary "Lu" Moyers was the first daughter born in the family of George Washington Earl Moyers (1849-1926) and Rebecca Ellen (Pence) Moyers (1847-1919). Her older brother, Samuel, had died before her birth, in 1872, at the age of 13 months. Lu wouold be folloed by 8 more siblings in the family.

On Christmas Eve, 1891, she married George Workman Dotson (1867-1920) in rural Newport, Iowa. George was the youngest child of David Dotson (1818-1898) and Mary (Jackman) Dotson (1826-1908), natives of Pennsylvania who had moved to Iowa around 1850.

Lu and George would have six children of their own, all of whom lived to adulthood. There were: Lee Earl Dotson Sr. (1892-1974), Harry Lawrence Dotson (1893-1959, Samuel David "Dave" Dotson (1894-1979), Iva Marie Dotson (1896-1985) Talph Thomas "Tommy" Dotson (1899-1978), and Georgia "Velda" (Dotson) Mullins (1911-1986).

Mrs. Mary L. Dotson, 84, of 615 Barrett, died in the Harmony Nursing home, Mediapolis, at 5:35 a.m. after a long illness.

She was born February 12, 1873, in Des Moines county the daughter of George W. and Roberta Pence Moyers. She married George W. Dotson on December 24, 1891; he died in 1920.

Surviving are four sons, Lee E., Phoenix, Arizona, S. David, Wapello, Harry L. and R. Thomas, Newport; two daughters, Mrs. Velda Mullins, Corvallis, Oregon, and Iva M. Dotson, Burlington; three brothers, P. A. Moyers, Morning Sun, B. J. Moyers, Wapello, and H .R. Moyers, Elk River, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fry's chapel in Mediapolis. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
