Nora Rust Mickelson, 99, passed away on November 3, 2011 at the Davis County Medical Center in Layton, UT after suffering a heart attack. She was just 39 days short of her 100th birthday.

Nora was born December 12, 1911 in Roosevelt, UT to George B and Melinda E Roberts Rust. She was the youngest of 10 children.

Nora graduated from Manti High School. She married Ernest Roy Mickelson on April 29, 1936 in the Manti Temple. Their children are: Judy (Lee) Anderson, Manti; Peter (Linda) Mickelson, Manti; Ralph (Heather) Mickelson, Heber City; Richard (Lynette) Mickelson, Centerville; Scott (Karen) Mickelson, Manti; Shelly (Richard) Hunsaker, Kaysville; Jan (Pennie) Mickelson, Manti. Ernest and Nora have 51 grandchildren and 119 great grandchildren.

Nora served in many church callings. She and Ernest served two LDS missions; the first in Knoxville, Tennessee and the second in Cleveland, Ohio, where they were tour guides at the Historic John Johnson home in Hirum, Ohio. They were workers in the Manti Temple for many years.

Nora was an avid gardener, growing and producing much of her own food. Two of her many hobbies and talents were reading and writing poetry. She received honors for her poems in local contests. She was known for her public speaking abilities, giving readings, toasts, recitals for clubs and auxiliaries and acting as MC at weddings. She had a love for learning her whole life long. She loved to teach the youth of the church, teaching Sunday School classes a good part of her life. She was teaching primary classes in her 90's. The children simply loved her. She had endless energy and a zest for life. She was loved and admired by many for her goodness, her acts of charity, and her dedication and determination to be a living disciple of the Savior. In her later years the Temple was like her second home where she did ordinance work for thousands. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in the Manti 8th Ward LDS Chapel, 300 North Main. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the 8th Ward building and again Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
