U.S. Congressman. He attended the academic department of Mercer University Missouri, graduated from the law department of that university in 1902, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law in Camilla, Georgia. He was Mayor of Camilla, Georgia, (1904-06), delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1908 and was judge of the superior court of the Albany, (1912-16). In 1925, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-ninth Congress and to the next thirteen succeeding Congresses and served until his death at age 72.
