ROCKLAND, Sept. 12 Horatio B. Burgess of 73 Spring street, a buyer of sole leather for the Rice & Hutchins Shoe Co., by which firm he had been employed for 35 years, died at midnight on Saturday after a brief illness. He was the son of Baldwin B. and Marcia Reed Burgess. For several years he was chief of the Rockland fire department and had served on the police force. He was a member of the Rockland Commercial Club. He is survived by three sons, Joseph Reed Burgess, superintendent of schools at Nantucket, and Albert and Carl Burgess of Rockland, and three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Watkins of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Edith Fitzpatrick of Braintree and Mrs. Anna Confrey of Brockton. The funeral will be held at the home here Tuesday afternoon.
