BENNINGTON -- Rachel Mae Bartlett, 81, wife of Walter E. Bartlett, a longtime resident of Pownal, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004 at Rivers Edge Community Care Home following a brief illness.

Born in Hoosick, N.Y., Aug. 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella Mae (Bickford) Jones. She received her education in North Petersburgh, N.Y., and Hoosick Falls, N.Y.

Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett were married in Pownal on May 5, 1956. Mr. Bartlett died March 2, 1997.

In earlier years, Mrs. Bartlett was employed at the Pownal Tannery. Mrs. Bartlett enjoyed number painting.

Survivors include two sisters, Joyce Appel of Hoosick and Corina Bakaitis of Hoosick Falls; two brothers, Arthur Jones of Oklahoma and Allan Jones of Kansas; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Bartlett was predeceased by three brothers, William, Forrest and Harold Jones.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Pownal.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Bartlett may be made to the Pownal Rescue Squad through the E.P. Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201..
