CANYON - Mamie Jarrett, 90, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Jarrett was born Aug. 18, 1911, to E.J. and Lula Mae King of Childress. She married Dr. Robert Patton Jarrett Jr. on Jan. 1, 1937. She graduated from Childress High School in 1928. She attended the College of Industrial Arts in Denton where she studied education and library science. She taught sixth and seventh grade at High Point Childress County School and then taught fourth- and fifth-grade math in Childress. She graduated from West Texas State Teachers
College in 1935. In 1937 she moved back to Canyon where she continued to work in education as a substitute teacher. She put her career aside in 1940 to raise a family.

During those years she was active in the Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school. She was active in the women's circle serving as the circle leader
and secretary. She was also active in Sue Hite, Schooner Club, various bridge clubs and Delta Zeta Alumni.

In 1968 it was her joy to return to helping students, this time as an assistant reference librarian at West Texas State University. She held this position for more than 30 years until her retirement on Aug. 31, 2001. She also volunteered at Baptist St. Anthony's for 15 years. She was a member of the Medical Auxiliary and Business and Professional Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on Nov. 26, 1967; her parents; and a grandson, Robert Rheinlander.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Rheinlander and husband, Tom of Lawton, Okla., Jane Buskirk and husband, Mike of Evanston, Wyo., and Beth Ivy and husband, Jim of Fort Stockton; a son, Pat Jarrett and wife, Sarah Beth of
Canyon; 10 grandchildren, Liisa Vandelicht, Scott Rheinlander, Susan Kohl, Jeanna Martinez, Jamie Ivy, Becky Jarrett, and Nancy Jarrett; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Friends of the Cornette Library at WTAMU, First Presbyterian Church of Canyon, or a favorite charity.
