Mrs. Lena M. Butler Dies in Roseville
Woman's Improvement Club Will Hold Services In Memory of Esteemed Member, Special to the Union. ROSEVILLE (Placer Co.), April 14. The news of the death of Mrs. Lena Maude Butler, wife of City Trustee W. T. Butler, was a shock to the residents of Roseville and vicinity as she was one of the most esteemed women of the city. She died this morning after en illnes.s of less than a week with cerebro-splnal meningitis. She was 39 years 5 months and 18 days of age. The funeral, which was private on account of the disease which ended her life, took place this afternoon at 4 o’clock. The Interment was in the Roseville cemetery. Mrs. Butler was born in Placer county and spent the greater part of her life in Roseville. She took an active part in the Women’s Improvement club of this city and was a leading spirit in all movements for the good of Roseville. She leaves a husband, W. T. Butler, a daughter. Miss Mildred Butler; a son, William T. Butler Jr.; a mother, Mrs. Grace Berry, and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Boston and Mrs. E. O. Preskett, all of this city. The Women’s Improvement club, out of respect to the memory of their esteemed member, have postponed a musicale which was to have taken place Friday. Next Sunday afternoon the club will hold memorial services. (Sacramento Union 4/15/1913)
