HISTORY: found clipping from unknown book Lucas Wood:
Berryman Wood and Sarah Lucas were married about 1855 in Logan Co., Illinois. He was the son of Solomon and Phebe Lucas Wood and was born December 22, 1834 at the old Rocky Ford Settlement in Corwin twp. His grandparents were Abraham and Marcy Kelsey Lucas, who came to Logan Co. in 1827, and Joel and Elizabeth Miller Wood of Ohio. ...

The first nine children were born in Logan Co., Illinois. the family moved to Falls Co., Texas in 1870 and remaining 4 children where born there. ...

By the year of 1885 Berryman had taken his family to Attica, Kansas, then to San Jose, Missouri in 1886. They then moved back to Logan County, Illinois in 1888.

Berryman and Sarah's home was located just south of the "Lake Fork Ditch" southeast of Mt. Pulaski, about one mile west of the Mt. Pulaski twp line. A family picture indicated the house probably had one or two large rooms and was practically windowless. The building was tall so no dough there was a loft or 2nd story where the children step.

Three of the Wood children died young. Sarah Lucas Wood died January 20, 1896 near Mt. Pulaski. Her husband, Berryman, died in 1914. They are both buried in Lake Bank Cemetery, which is located about one half mile south of the site that was her father's home.

RECORD: John F. Vallentine, Ph. D. [genealogist]; page 3
Berryman B. Wood, by that name, cannot be found in the 1850 census but is believed to be the same as "Benjamin" Wood [age 15, b. Illinois] who resided in the John Lucas household in Mt. Pulaski twp, Illinois in 1850. He apparently resided in Missouri in 1858-- family tradition has it that the family resided at St. Joseph at one time -- since his daughter Mary Isabel was born in Missouri that year, but he was back residing in Lake Bank Twp, Logan co., Illinois in 1860. He and his family resided in Mt. Pulaski twp, Illinois in 1870 where he farmed, were residing in Falls Co., Texas, when daughter Lillie Margret was born in 1871, but were back in Illinois for the birth of sons Caleb Franklin and Levi Walter in 1872 and 1875, respectively.

Berryman cannot be found in the 1880 census but may have already moved to Kansas; he and his family are recorded in the 1885 State Census of Lake twp., Harper, Kansas. There he was recorded as a farmer owning 80 acres. His farm inventory for that year showed 10 a. of corn, 1/4 a. each of Irish & sweet potatoes, 5 a. of millet, the production of 20 tons of prairie hay, 4 horses, 1 mule, 1 milk cow, 8 swine, and 5 sheep.

Berryman, his wife, and many but not all of his children returned to Logan co., Illinois in 1886 and settled in Mt. Pulaski twp. Their home was located just south of the "Lake Fork Ditch" southeast of Mt. Pulaski, about one mile west of the Mt. Pulaski twp. line. This home was two-story, had one or two large rooms on the ground floor, and few windows, according to an old picture. Sarah's death notice reads "In Loving Remembrance of Mrs. Sarah Wood, d. Jan 20, 1896,aged 60 yrs., 8 mos., 23 days:. In the 1900 census of Mt. Pulaski City, he was shown as a widower working in a fish market. Although he was known to have many virtues, he is widely recorded in family records as named after Berryman Baughan, his uncle by virture of the latter having married Jane Lucas.
