Lawrence was the son of the late Leonard & Ella Mae (Shimer) Moore. Lawrence was also preceded in death by his wife Earltine "Honey" (Wilson) Moore.

He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a retired coal miner.

He is survived by two sons; four daughters; one sister; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
