From Holland St.John - "Wesley was the son of Homer A. and Betsy (Freeman) Butler and was born in Rock County, Wisconsin on October 23, 1850. His parents were married for about four years when they moved to Clayton County, Iowa near Volga in Sperry Township. Two of his sisters were also born in Rock County, Wisconsin: Charlotte Ann (born April 12, 1849) and Cerena Amanda (born September 30, 1852). The U S Census of 1860 does not include Wesley as living with his family. His father, mother, and two sisters are recorded as living on the family farm. It would appear that Wesley may have died sometime prior to the 1860 taking of the census. It is also known that he had a younger brother John who was born in 1855 in Clayton County; however, he also died that same year according to one source. John is also not listed in the census of 1860. There is no record as to where Wesley was buried. The fact that a number of Freemans are interred in the Garretson Cemetery located near Volga City, it is assumed that Wesley was buried here. His mother and father moved west in 1889 and are both buried in the Lake View Cemetery in Seattle, Washington."
