Charles A. Roehl was born on May 17, 1887, near Humboldt, Kansas, to Gottlieb and Augusta (Schultz) Roehl, on a farm where he spent his formative years. Educated at Iola Business College, he embarked on his career post-graduation with Sifer's (Valomilk) Candy Company. During World War I, Roehl served in the Army's 10th Division at Camp Funston, later returning to candy sales until World War II prompted a move to Wichita to work for Boeing. After World War II, he resumed candy sales for Sifer's until his retirement at the age of 93. His wife passed in November 1957. Roehl was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Veterans of World War I Barracks No. 2711 in Iola. He died at the age of 97, at Allen County Hospital on January 25, 1985.
