Sanke was the 2nd of 7 children that were born in Germany and immigrated to the USA. The eldest died as an infant and is buried in Germany.

Sanke married ELizabeth Reiling on Feb. 2, 1901 in Charlotte, Iowa. She died young and Sanke headed to South Dakota. The children were raised by Sanke's brothers and sisters.

Sanke returned to Iowa toward the end of his life. His last days were at a nursing home in Maquoketa where some of his grand children remember visiting him.

My grandfather was a 1st cousin to Sanke and lived with the Ketelsen's when he immigrated in 1906.
