Mehitable Sumner King.
At 10 o'clock Sunday morning occurred
the death of one of the oldest
residents of Saratoga county, Mrs.
Mehitable Sumner King of Hagedorn's
Mills, at the advanced age of 100
years, 5 months and 1 7 days. She was
born in Edinburg, Saratoga county,
July 6, 1805, the daughter of John
and Betsy Sumner. She was married
to William King, by whom she had
four children, three of whom are living,
viz: John King of Nebraska,
Samuel King of Glens Falls, and Mrs.
Sanford Hart of Hagedorn's Mills. In
February of 1830 she was baptized by
Elder Simmons into the membership
of the Baptist church of Edinburg.
After several years the church became
extinct and Mrs. King became a member
of the Northville church. In 1865
she moved to Providence, N. Y., and
united with the Providence church,
where she still retained her membership.
For the past forty years she had
made her home with her daughter,
Mrs. Sanford Hart, at Hagedorn's
Mills, and although for the past
twelve years she has been entirely
blind, her mind was very clear. On
July last she celebrated the 100th anniversary of her birth. Several friends of the family were present, and her pastor, Rev. F. Mattison, with the deacons of the church held a communion service. She was able to talk with friends and renew old acquaintances.
Besides twe two sons and one
daughter, she is survived by eight
grandchildren, John S. Hart of Gloversville, Miss Hetty C. Hart, George S. and Henry A. Hart of Hagedorn's Mills, Mrs. Jennie Kimble of Moshervillle, Miss Ida King and Judd King of Nebraska, and Miss Hannah King of Broadalbin. There are also three great, grandchildren, Alice Kimble, Ethel and Ada Hart. The funeral service was held at her late home at 1 0 a. m. today, Rev. F. Mattison officiating.
The body was taken to Edinburg
for Interment.
