Obituary - Died at his residence, in Edinburgh, N. Y. Sept. 12th 1865, Ely Beecher, aged 88 years and nine months.

His life had been almost wholly uninterrupted by sickness, and his physical and mental powers hardly yielded to the infirmities of age until a year or two previous to his death. A severe sickness then prostrated him and led him to realize that he was indeed passing away.

Mr. Beecher was many times elected Supervisor of the Town, and was a member of the Legislature of 1835. He had been a member of the Congregational Church from its organization, and having occupied positions of trust and influence in society, his death has left a vacancy in the community, a sadness in the loving circle that shared so long his fireside, and a loneliness in the house that been his home for 60 years. Thus another draft is made in the ranks of the aged and one by one the honored sons and daughters of the past generation are called to throw off their armor and lie down to rest.

********************************

From Sylvester's History of Saratoga County 1878, Eli was also a postmaster, had 11 children all deceased. Last descendants are 2 grandchildren George and Emma of son Callender Beecher in Saratoga and Emily of son Ely T. Beecher in Northville, Fulton Co.
