Wilbur Charles VanWinkle, age 59, died Tuesday, May 11, 1982 at the Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper. Wilbur, the son of Charles and Grace Cox VanWinkle, was born April 8, 1923 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was raised and educated in Scottsbluff. After graduating from high school he went to work in the oil fields near Grass Creek, Wyoming. He then joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. After he was discharged he went to Montana where he worked as a mechanic until 1957 when he moved to Cheyenne. He was married to Veryl Davis in Havre, Montana on April 26, 1950. In 1958 he moved to Riverton, then in 1960 moved to Torrington, and in 1962 back to Riverton. He worked as a trailer house serviceman in these towns. The last two years in Riverton he worked for Empire Gas Co. In 1980 he moved to Douglas and worked for his son at V-1 Oil Company as a propane serviceman. He is survived by his wife, Veryl, of Douglas; one son, Chris Lee VanWinkle of Douglas; one daughter, Valerie Patricia Reed of Riverton, Wy.; one sister, Pearl Colgrove of Gering, Ne.; and one grandchild.
