STATESBORO, Ga. — Mr. Jesse Phillip "Pete" Campbell, age 83, died Sunday, October 30th, 2011, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a graduate of Brooklet High School, where he served as the captain of the basketball team for three years. Mr. Campbell joined the United States Army, in which he served during the Korean War. Upon his return from the war, he began his employment with Robbins Packing Company as a sales manager for several years. Pete later started his own company, Campbell's Meat Plant, in which he owned and operated for 21 years. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time gardening and especially the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pete was a faithful member of the Statesboro First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Harmony Sunday School Class. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 90. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Abbie Campbell; a brother, Howell Campbell; and a sister, Eunice Hollingsworth.

Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Bonnie McGlamery Campbell of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Dianne Campbell of Statesboro, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Larry Turner of Bloomingdale, Ga., and Jan and Emerson Melton of Statesboro, Ga.; several grandchildren, Aimee (Keith) Albert, Jenna Campbell, Rebekah Turner, Tyler Melton and
Mitchell Melton; great-grandchildren, Emily Albert and Evan Albert; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Dr. H. William Perry and Dr. John Waters officiating. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery. Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
