Susan Alice Duffield was born 2 December 1861 in Markleville, Perry County, Pennsylvania. She was the fifth child of Henry B Duffield and Margaret Klinepeter. In the 1850-70s Henry owned and operated a tannery in Perry County. In 1872 Henry owned land in Virginia township, Warren County, Iowa. Henry and Margaret and their children lived in Warren County until 1885. Henry and Margaret divorce soon after the 1885 Iowa census.

Susan Alice Duffield marries Hezekiah M Wilson on 3 January 1884 in Warren County, Iowa at her parent's home. Hezekiah and Susan move to Madison County, Iowa where their first son, Henry Joshua Wilson is born 8 October 1884. They are still in Madison County when their second son, Cecil Calvin Wilson, is born 27 July 1886. Hezekiah and Susan move to Sheridan County, Nebraska to homestead. They move to a railroad camp in Lane Valley, from which point the Burlington railway was building west. Their third child, Minnie Jane Wilson is born here. Hezekiah has brothers in the area who are also homesteading. They were part of developing the cattle country. By 1892 Hezekiah and Susan have moved on to South Dakota where their fourth child Sula Alice Wilson is born 6 June 1892 in Oreville, Pennington County, South Dakota. How long they stayed in South Dakota is unknown. By 1897 at least Susan is in Belinda, Lucas County, Iowa. This is where her mother, Margaret Klinepeter Duffield had moved after their divorce. The fifth child of Hezekiah and Susan, Ruth Orlow Wilson, was born 9 January 1897 in Belinda, Lucas County, Iowa.

By 1900, the family had fallen apart. Hezekiah and the five children have moved back to Nebraska. The children are all living in different households of Hezekiah's siblings. In 1903 Hezekiah remarries.

Susan Alice Duffield Wilson was admitted to the Clarinda State Mental Hospital in Clarinda, Page County, Iowa. She was a resident there until 1915. Alice then moved to the Lucas County Home in Lucas County, Iowa. Susan Alice Duffield Wilson died there on 1 February 1956.

ALICE WILSON DIES

Funeral services for Miss Alice Wilson, 95, resident of Lucas county since 1915, who died at her home in Chariton Wednesday afternoon following a short illness, will be held Saturday at the Beardsley funeral home at 2 p.m. The Rev. Lester C. Hall will officiate and interment will be in the Chariton cemetery.
