An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on March 14, 1912 for Mrs. Beulah Spears, wife of Nathan Spears, stated that she had died at the family home in West Shelbyville [March 6, 1912] She was 73 years, 8 months, and 28 days of age. Mrs. Spears was born in Lowell, Ohio, on June 4, 1838. She was united in marriage to Nathan Spears at that place and shortly after their marriage they moved to Shelbyville. After several years, they moved back to Lowell, Ohio but returned to Shelbyville and spent the last 25 years at Shelbyville. They were the parents of eight children, one daughter dying here and a son passing away at Lowell, Ohio. The surviving sons and daughters were William Spears and Ellsworth Spears of Shelbyville; Mrs. James Snapp of Findlay, Mrs. Lafe Hale of Rinard, Mrs. Eva Lantermann of Decatur and Mrs. George Benefiel of Shelbyville.
