Burley Milroy Harris, Sr. third child of Albert Winfield Haris and Mary Elizabeth [Temple] Harris, was born in Logansport, Indiana, on 28 August 1881. His primary education was obtained in the public schools, and he entered the University of Valparaiso, Indiana, where he graduated in the class of 1902. During the years spent securing his university education, he also taught school in Carroll county, Indiana. He was but eleven years of age when he entered high school, fifteen years of age when he graduated, and at that same age began teaching school. During his senior year at the university he taught classes in psychology and physiology in that institution, being then only twenty years of age. He married on 12 March 1903, to Dora Charlotte McNeill, daughter of Robert McNeill and Rebecca Jane [Nicklow] McNeill, of Somerset County, Pennsylvania. She was a student at Valparaiso University, where they first met. Later in 1903, he came to Connellsville, Pennsylvania, where he entered the employ of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad. In 1904 was apponted airbrake inspector, then entered the train service as brakeman, continuing until 1908. In that year he entered the service of the Penn Power Company, in the machine department, remaining thirteen months. He next joined a bridge building gang working for the Pennsylvania railroad, but after three months began canvassing for the International Correspondence School of Scranton, Pennsylvania, continuing as their representative for nine months. In 1910 he entered the employ of the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie railroad as fireman, and in 1911 was appointed night foreman at Dickerson Run. Sometime after 1920, he returned to Indiana, where he was married to Ada Koogle on 4 February 1923. The following year, he took up residence in Ft. Meyers, Florida, where he remained for several years. By 1935, he was located in Eagle Lake, Texas, where he married again, this time to Lila Mae Hinton, who married John Addison after Burley's death. In 1943, they obtained a second residence in Huntsville, Texas. At the time of his death on 16 February 1946, the Cause of Death was ruled accidental as a result of drinking a bottle of Sloan's Liniment in the dark. His body was transported to Huntsville, and was declared D.O.A. there.
