Mr. Spiers was born in Gulfport and was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He served in the Marine Corps and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orange Grove.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Edward Spiers.
Survivors include four daughters, Mandy Elizabeth Spiers and Jennifer Belinda Spiers, both of LaPort, Ind., Echo Courtwright and Jacqueline Courtwright, both of Lizana; a son, James Ernest Spiers Jr. of Indianapolis; his mother, Molly Starks of Mobile; three sisters, Charlotte Daniels, Diane Abshire and Judy Fratesi, all of Gulfport; two brothers, Johnnie Earl Spiers of Long Beach and Joseph Edward Spiers of Gulfport; and a grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport. A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel with burial at 2 p.m. at White Chapel Cemetery in Carriere.
