CPL Co. A, 1st Tennessee Infantry (USA)

b. abt 1841, near the Campbell-Anderson County line in Tennessee. John volunteered for service on the Union Army. He was promoted to rank of corporal. In 1863, John contracted smallpox. He was fortunate to survive his illness; however, the disease caused the loss of sight in his right eye, and left him in ill health and poor physical condition. He was discharged from the service in September 1864.
