Please note: There are several inaccuracies in the following obituary. The spelling of Pembroke's middle name is incorrect in the obituary. His middle name was "Charles Somerset" not "Charles Summersault." Also, his son's name was John Oscar Lowe, not Charles Lowe. Charles was his grandson (the son of John Oscar Lowe.)
Obituary:
"Pembroke Charles Summersault [Somerset]Lowe, Freighter, dies at his home in Phillip's County. A brother of P.G. Lowe. He was one of the Early Settlers of Leavenworth County -- drove Wagon Trains During the Civil War.
P.C.S. Lowe, for many years a resident of Leavenworth and Leavenworth county and a brother of Hon. P.G. Lowe, died on August 22 at his home in Phillips county.
Pembroke Charles Summersault [Somerset] Lowe was born in New Hampshire seventy-three years ago, went to Minnesota while a boy, came to Kansas in 1860 and he was a freighter between the Missouri River and Denver until 1862, and from that time until the close of the Civil War was a government wagon master.
With his family P.C.S. Lowe settled on a farm near Leavenworth in 1866, and few men in Leavenworth county were better known. In 1879, with his family, P.C.S. Lowe moved to Phillips county where he has since lived. His family, one son, Charles [John Oscar Lowe], and four daughters are married and all live on good farms of their own in Phillips County. All of them and numerous grand-children were at the funeral from the home of his son-in-law, Mr. George Farrell, at Prairieview, August 23, 1907.
Hannah Lowe, the good mother and faithful wife, died in May, 1899. Mr. Lowe had been an invalid several and for some months a great sufferer from diseases incidental to old age. He leaves two brothers, T.S.C. Lowe of Pasadena, California and P.G. Lowe of Leavenworth."
