Floyd Todd was the son of James Monroe Todd, Sr. and Amanda Goff. He was a farmer, a carpenter, and a Baptist preacher. and lived his life in and near Choctaw County, Alabama, then Clarke County, Mississippi. Around 1959 he and his wife moved to Gulfport, Mississippi where some of his sons lived.

His first wife, Mary Addie Gibson, was the daughter of Thomas H. Gibson and Thomas' first wife. Floyd and Addie had two children who lived to adulthood: Mrs. Annie Mae Graham and William Coy Todd.

Floyd and his second wife, Nora Naomi Hill, had several children including Mrs. Helen Creel, James M. Todd, Samuel David, Mrs. Elsie Mixon, Floyd Jr., Joe C., Mrs. Lora Grace Smith, Jacob Arthur, and Charles Curtis Todd.
