Judge's Wife Dies During Auto Journey

Mrs. G. W. Hendricks, aged 50, of 2800 Gaines street, wife of Circuit Judge G. Walter Hendricks, was found dead in the rear seat of an automobile driven by Miss May Letzig of 1908 Marshall street when the car was stopped by State Patrolman Bowling about 10 miles from Little Rock on the Hot Springs highway about 10 last night.

Patrolman Bowling said he halted the automobile for violation of traffic regulations.

Dr. Sam Phillips, deputy county coroner, called to the scene, said death was due to natural causes and ordered the body sent to Healey & Roth Funeral home.

Police said the four were returning to Little Rock from Hot Springs, where they had attended the races. Mrs. P. E. Newsome of 320 Charles street was riding in the front seat with Miss Letzig and Mrs. Hazel Burr of 1621 Gaines street in the back seat with Mrs. Hendricks. Police quoted the three as saying they did not know Mrs. Hendricks was dead until the automobile was halted by Patrolman Bowling.

State Patrolmen Wood, Walker and Brown assisted in the investigation.

Judge Hendricks recently was appointed judge of Pulaski Third Division Circuit Court by Governor Adkins to succeed the late Judge J. S. Utley. He was sworn in March 1 but has not conducted court as yet.
