BURTON, Lillian Mosley Age 94. Born March 28, 1914 in Bethesda community of Williamson County, resided in the LaGuardo community of Wilson County, TN, died January 15, 2009. A school teacher for 18 years prior to her marriage; graduated Franklin High School 1933, graduated George Peabody College for Teachers, with Graduate Degree studies Masters in Education at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She taught in various schools, 1 and 2 room schoolhouses, county/city systems and the Tenn School for the Blind. An avid reader, she taught her children and grandchildren to love books and value academic excellence.

Among the first to volunteer in 1943 to the Women's US Marine Corps Reserve under the "Free a Man to Fight" program during WWII, discharged November 24, 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant; was a life member of the Women Marines Association and American Legion. A member of LaGuardo Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 55 years, she continued her civic engagement and planned, giving to charities throughout life.

Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Samuel Burton, Sr., whom she married September 2, 1950; parents, Samuel and Lily Pearl Mosley; brothers, Robert Stephens Mosley, Sr. and Samuel Albert Mosley, Jr.; sisters, Mary Lucille Mosley, Eva I. Mosley and Frances M. Graham, and son-in-law, Robert Daniel Huber. Survived by her children, Robert Samuel Burton, Jr., Mary Jane (Morgan) Scott, Martha Ann Burton; her grandchildren, Leanna Burton, James Robert (Bob) Burton, JeSuis' Andrew Scott, Josiah Nathan Scott and step-grandchildren, Aaron Wesley (Trisha) Scott, Bryan Anthony Scott, Seth Tyson (Rachel) Huber; two step-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rebecca Graham Ferris, Billie M. Hamlett; nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Lebanon, where services are 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009.

Honorary Pallbearers: Erlene Foulds, Mary Perry, Ella Brown and Ramona Frantz. Active Pallbearers: Bob Burton, Durrell Burton, Mark E. Burton, Robert Stephens Mosley, Jr., Charles Ray Mosley, David C. Hooven, Leanna Burton, JeSuis' and Josiah Scott. Interment at Wilson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation Saturday, 3-8 p.m. and Noon - 2 p.m. Sunday.
