He had not been in good health, so he went to Missouri for a change of scenery and to visit old friends and family. He died at his son's house, W.P. Flint, Jr., four miles south-east of Saint Joseph Missouri.
The funeral took place on the 7th of July 1889 in MO. His remains were placed in the receiving vault at Mount Mora Cemetery, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO. The remains stayed there until they could be shipped to Marysville, Yuba County, CA. They arrived in Marysville on 12 October 1889. The remains were interred in the Marysville City Cemetery.
