Dorothy F. Allen, 89, former resident, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad, NM.
Visitation will be Friday, October 28, 2011, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 1001 North Canal Street, Carlsbad, NM. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2011, 11:00 AM, at Blodgett Street Baptist Church, 1500 West Blodgett Street, Carlsbad, NM with Pastor David Prell officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 575-885-6363, is in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy F. Allen was born March 17, 1922, in Rogers, NM to Benjamin and Irene (Watts) Prater. She married John I. Allen on October 19, 1942, in Portales, NM. She loved her family, her church and keeping the family home. She was a Charter Member of Blodgett Street Baptist Church. Dorothy was a Sunday School teacher for many years and was a great cook. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John I. Allen.
Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Royce and Mary Ann of Carlsbad, NM; three grandchildren: Christopher Allen and wife, Crystal of Pearland, TX, Sean Allen of Huntsville, TX, Farah Coleman and Jacob Mendoza of Carlsbad, NM; four great-grandchildren: Caylei Allen of Pearland, TX, Carter Allen of Pearland, TX, Hailie Coleman of Carlsbad, NM, Kenzi Coleman of Carlsbad, NM and brother, Billy Prater and wife, Peggy of Dora, NM.
Pallbearers will be Terry Patterson, Keith Lacy, Craig Suggs, Berry Pace, Allan Collier and Doug Burt. Honorary pallbearer is Randy Brooks.
