In 1866, the family moved to a farm near Atlantic in Cass County where 2 more children were born. Nomon's mother died in September of 1870, leaving Lazarus with 7 children (girls 15,8 and 2 mos; boys, 17,14,7 and 3 yrs.). The four older children from Lazarus's first marriage, had married in Warren County and John (from 2nd marr.) stayed there as a farm laborer.
In February of 1871, Lazarus married for the 4th time, to Martha (Dowell) Pearson. She was the sister of his 2nd wife, Drucilla, and the mother of 4 children, boys 13, 11, & 9 and a girl age 7. Their father died of disease in 1863 while serving in the Civil War.
In 1874, Nomon married Sarah Jane Smith. They had 1 daughter and then moved to Shelby County, Iowa where 4 more children were born.
The family purchased a farm south of Wiota ca: 1889, and had 2 more children there. They continued to farm there until Nomon "died of pneumonia after a short illness in 1900. He had recently sold the farm and purchased another in Pymosa Township." (as per his obit in Atlantic Semi Weekly Telegraph, 16 Mach 1900.
