CHARLES M. HELFERSTAY'S BODY BROUGHT TO GARRETT
Former Boiler Shop Foreman Here Dies at His Home in Frankfort


The death of Charles M. Helferstay, formerly a well known Garrett resident, took place at his home in Frankfort Tuesday morning at 10:45, according to messages received here. The body will be brought to Garrett, but the time of arrival is not yet known.

Mr. Helferstay was seventy years of age last July and was born at Martinsburg, W. Va. He was a boilermaker. by trade and came to Garrett more than two score years ago to take employment in the local shop. He later served as foreman of the boiler shop. In 1909 he went to Frankfort and has ever since been employed at his trade in the Clover Leaf shops.

Mr. Helferstay and Ellen Mulcahy were married a half century ago and she died sixteen years ago.

Surviving are four children, Frank of Milwaukee, Clarence of Indianapolis, Mabel, who lived with her father, and Laura Wiley of Chicago. There is also one brother, Jacob S. Helferstay of Akron, O., a retired Baltimore and Ohio engineer, and one sister, Mrs. L. D. Harding of LaPorte; a half-brother, P. R. Hess of Cumberland, Md., and a half-sister, Mary Darby of Chicago.

While living in Garrett Mr. Helferstay was a member of the volunteer fire department and was active in the Knights of Pythias.
