It is proper to note the passing on September 27, 2011 of a remarkable mother and wife, Carolyn "Louise" (Baxter) Garrison at the age of 96. Louise was born April 15, 1915 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Carrie and Joseph McCollough. Detroit, Michigan was her home for many years, and it was there in high school that she met her husband of nearly fifty years, Richard S. Baxter. She taught kindergarten for twenty-five years while they raised their children, and served throughout her life in her church and community. After retirement the couple moved to Ann Arbor. Louise volunteered at the Ann Arbor Hospice and as a pianist at Glacier Hills Retirement Center. Glacier Hills is where she was living at the time of her death. She was always quick to note the needs of others and to respond generously and will be remembered as one who tried to see the best in others and to foster their happiness and growth. Louise touched many people throughout her life and the family thanks her friends and the caretakers of A Little TLC Agency who have remained faithful and encouraged her as she prepared to go home to be with the Lord. We know that she is fully restored and celebrating with those who shared her faith in Jesus Christ.
She will be remembered and missed by her nieces, nephews, cousin Betty Bauer, the children of her second loving husband Del Garrison, who are Gene and James Garrison and Linda Storey, and by her son Richard A. Baxter, his wife Kathy, son John Baxter, his wife Linda and their children Alison and Mark, daughter Carolyn L. Marcusse, her husband Robert and their children Laura and Steven, his wife Lisa and great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Anna and Nathan Marcusse.
A memorial service will be held at Huron Hills Baptist Church, Ann Arbor, MI at 3:00 pm on October 30, 2011 following a private burial at Botsford Cemetery on Earhart Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Huron Hills Baptist Church, The Samaritan's Purse, or to a charity of one's choosing.
