Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company E, 7th Michigan Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 31, 1862 at Fair Oaks, Virginia. His citation reads "Continued fighting, although wounded, until he fainted from loss of blood."
