David was a son of John Dickerson and Mary B. Garrison, it is believed he joined the Confederate Army, along with his brother Nehemiah and many Dozen Family members. He is a Grandson of War of 1812 and Revolutionary Soldiers of Ga., N.C. and Va.

He and his wife, Mary Carolina Wilkins are buried in unmarked Graves, just inside The Gates of Center Ridge Cemetery.
