Mrs. Bowen is survived by her husband, B. F. (Bertie) Bowen of Register; a son, M. Sgt. Carlton Bowen with the USAF, stationed in Turkey; two sisters, Mrs. Verda Higginbotham and Mrs. James Hubbard of South Bay, Fla.; three brothers, Grady Miller of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Clayton Miller and Mervin Miller of South Bay and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bowen were held Saturday afternoon, October 19, from the Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church with the Elder Ivy Spivey and Elder Conrad McCorkle conducting services. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Bobby Holland, Bowen Jones, Alfred Bowen, W. E. Brunson, Coleman Miller Jr., Harvey Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Iverson Anderson, Cecil Sparks, Joe Durrence, B. T. Atwood, Benny Bradley, H. V. Franklin, Ben Jones, Willie H. Brunson, Herbert Powell, Melton Anderson, G.B. Bowen, H.C. Brunsed, Ernest Tootie, Reginald Anderson, Jack Anderson, Inman Foy Sr., Harvey Dekle, and Reedy Anderson. The body remained in the Chapel of Smith-Tillman Mortuary until one hour prior to the services, at which time it was carried to the church to lie in state. Smith-Tillman Funeral Home of Statesboro was in charge.
