"Julia Doyle Wackerhagen was born on Sept. 15, 1920, to Dora Smith Doyle and Archie Peter Doyle, on the family farm between Lockhart and Fentress. She was welcomed by two sisters, Lorene and Bernice. She grew up on the family farm and loved animals especially her cats, kittens, and dog.

She started to school in the mid 1920's and loved to read. While attending Lockhart Public School she met her future husband, Kurt Wackerhagen. After graduation from Lockhart Public School in 1938, she attended Southwest Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught for two years at a rural school near her family's farm.

She married Kurt on Aug. 12, 1939, in Floresville, Texas. She helped Kurt on the farm that they purchased between Maxwell and Reedville, while raising two daughters, Francis Diane and Rebeca Jane. She sewed their clothes, gave them their perms and took them to piano lessons and birthday parties.

She was active in Church activities at Ebenezer Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Ladies Aid.

After her daughters married and had families, she enjoyed her grandchildren. After retirement she and Kurt enjoyed traveling. They traveled overseas, the U.S. and Canada.

After the death of her husband of 62 years, Julia stayed on the family farm until 2005 when her health caused her to move into a nursing home in San Marcos.

Julia passed away on Oct. 15, 2011, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and husband Kurt. She leaves behind two daughters, Frances Diane Schreiner, of Houston, and Rebeca Jane Parks, of Marion, Texas; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild."
