Growing up during the 1930s was a terrible expirence for the most, Louis and his brother, Joseph, were orphaned for a short time because their mother had abandoned them, it was not very long until his father found them and brought them home.
In June 1935, Louis was Bar Mitzvah'd and as a gift, his parents presented to him a golden Mazzuzah necklace with the holy scrolls inside, it was to be worn always by Louis for several years.
It was summer of 1941 when his family was living on Allen Street in Lower East Side of Manhattan when Louis met Charlotte Jablinowitz, daughter of a polish immigrant father and mother of russian decent, he fell in love with her. He was still very poor, working and earning money went directly to a gift for Charlotte, on their second date he gave her a gift of two blouses, which she wore on the following dates. Charlotte was also very poor, her father had been handicaped at a young age and her mother had to work in a factory.
It was March of 1942 when they were legally married, they were then in September of 1942 were religously married, Charlotte was only 19 and Louis was 20 years old. Louis was drafted in December of that year and left the same month, leaving his now pregnant wife.
Louis never spoke much about his war expierences but he did return in October of 1943 to see his newborn daughter, Roberta Iris. While he was on leave his entire troop was killed, it was luck that he hadn't been there.
After the war, he moved his family to the Bronx, another daughter was born in August 1947, Marcelle Linda. In later years the family moved to Flushing, Queens.
In the 1980s, Charlotte and Louis moved to California and in 1992 to Arizona.
After his battle with lung cancer, Louis died on the 23rd of June, 2002, just ten days after his 80th birthday and months after his 60th wedding anniversary.
Louis was preceeded in death by his parents, Issac in 1954, Solucha in 1969, as well as his granddaughter, Amanda Joyce who died in 1997 at the age of 24 years. He was survived by his wife Charlotte, his daughters, Roberta and Marcy, his granddaughter, Lauren and Kathie, including two great-granddaughters, Rachel and Cameron and his great grandson, Matthew.
