Mr. Baker, the son of the late Thomas J. Baker and Jennie Burch Baker, was born in Twiggs County on January 01, 1925, and had lived in Newnan for the past year, having previously lived in Macon and Warner Robins. He attended Griswold High School in Griswold and began working at The Georgia Air Depot in Warner Robins in 1941 as an aircraft mechanic. At the outbreak of World War II, Mr. Baker enthusiastically enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and served with honor until 1946. Upon his return to civilian life, he went back to work at the new Robins Air Force Base, where he retired in 1972.
Mr. Baker thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years, moving to Newnan to be closer to his daughter and her family. He could be described as a loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by brothers: Robert Baker of Warner Robins, Charles Baker and Schiller Baker, both of Jones County; and by his sisters: Marie Baker of Paramount, California, and Alice Mendival of San Clemente, California.
Mr. Baker is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Judy and Dr. Robert Thompson of Newnan; brothers: Tommy Baker of Paramount, California, Fred Baker of Warner Robins and Mack Baker of Anaheim, California; a sister: Hazel Gayton of San Clemente, California; and by a granddaughter: Caroline Thompson of Decatur.
