He was named after his Grandfather, War of 1812 Soldier Joshua Marbut., who's father was from Germany. The family has rich History in Conyers, Rockdale and Dekalb County Georgia, where this family came to. There are many Schools, Streets and other Places named after them.

Many Dozen of The Elder Joshua's Grandson's fought for The Confederate States of America.
Joshua L. Enlisted with Cherokee (Georgia.) Artillery, Capt. Max. Van Den Corput.

Van Den Corputs Co., of The Georgia Light Infantry, also The Cherokee Artilery., Both of these Regiments, Fought at the Battle of Atlanta, and much more..Joshua however was Captured in Dallas, Paulding County Georgia on May 30, 1864. This was part of the 3 Battles fought in Paulding Co.,Battle of New Hope Church May 25/26, Pickett's Mill May 27, Dallas May 28 -30. He was taken Prisoner to Rock Island, Ill.

After The War, Joshua was a Methodist Minister and Helped to Build and organize 15 Methodist Churches in Georgia and Alabama. His last Church, where he was Minister at was Youngs Chapel Church, Al., and that is where he rests.

He married Dolly Cornelia Stern on Dec. 23, 1866 Ga.
1910 Census says they had 9 Children, 6 were Living.

His Father, and 3 Sisters are buried close by over The Georgia State line in Polk Co., and Cave Springs, Floyd County., Georgia.

And many Thanks To Dr. David Wiggins of our Family for his new information about Joshua's father, Euclidus (Clyde) Marbut, who also served in the Confederacy of Georgia.
