US Congressman. Born in Elizabethton, Tennessee, he served as a Colonel during the War of 1812. He was a member of the Tennessee State House of Representatives, served in the Tennessee State Senate and delegate to the Tennessee State constitutional convention in 1834. In 1835, he was elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress and as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth and Twenty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1841. He died at age 55 in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
