May Stainbrook was born August 10, 1914 in Parker, Linn County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Aral and Cora Ada Pellett Stainbrook. May was the oldest of eight children. The family resided on a farm in the rural LaCygne area. May was a member of the Parker High School graduating class of 1934.

May Hightower married William Foster Hightower on February 1, 1940 in Garnett, Anderson County, Kansas. They farmed in rural LaCygne. In 1959, they purchased the farm of her parents and moved there. Foster and May had two sons.

May Hightower lived her entire life in Linn County, Kansas. May Hightower died October 25, 2011 in Paola, Miami County, Kansas.
