Mabel Seigenthaler, age 85, of 206 11th St. SE, Huron, SD, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at her home.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Huron Christian Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 3, from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to HRMC Home Hospice.

Mabel Seigenthaler was born Mabel Maxine Knutz on June 20, 1923, to William and Elvirta (Graves) Knutz in Huron, SD. She attended Cain Creek Country School and Huron High School.

On August 9, 1941, Mabel married Raymond E. Seigenthaler in Mitchell, SD. They lived in Huron until moving to Rapid City in 1942; returned to Huron in 1944; McMinnville, Oregon, until 1948; Rapid City until 1950, when they returned to Huron and have lived here since that time.

Mabel was employed as a waitress for 1 year, then 2 years in the school cafeteria. She was a homemaker while raising her family.

She was a member of Huron Christian Church. Her many interests included watching birds, flowers, gardening, and her angel figurine collection, shopping and visiting the sites in other communities especially the Straw Museum in Carthage, SD, where she traced her ancestry.

Mabel is survived by 2 sons, Ray (Geri) Seigenthaler, Jr. of Huron, and Dwight (Renae) Seigenthaler of Sioux Falls; 2 daughters, Connie Lewis of Sioux Falls, and Bonnie Lee (Peter) Guagliardi of Brooklyn, NY; 1 daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Seigenthaler of Waukon, IA; 10 grandchildren, Bonnie Lee (Layne) Bunger, Ed (Kari) Lewis, Angie Lewis, Todd (Jenny) Seigenthaler, Travis (Emily) Seigenthaler, Brian Guagliardi, Michael Guagliardi, Nicole Guagliardi, Molly Seigenthaler, and Abby Seigenthaler; 1 step grandchild, Bret Engel; 7 great grandchildren, Hunter Seigenthaler, Hailey Seigenthaler, Steven Hybertson, Sean Bunger, Shannon Bunger, Brittney Lewis, and Nathan Lewis; 3 step great grandchildren, Cassey Buckland, Cody Buckland, and Kelly Buckland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond, Sr. on September 29, 1989; 1 son, James Seigenthaler; 4 brothers, William (Lillian) Knutz, Jr., Howard (Mae) Knutz, Richard (Helen) Knutz, and Leonard Knutz; 2 sisters, Evelyn Knutz, and Dorothy (Duane) Schlomer; and 1 step granddaughter, Diane Buckland.
